Veteran Brazilian confident he can challenge Brit
Rubens Barrichello admits he was surprised by Jenson Button's final flying lap that saw the Brit take pole position for Sunday's Spanish GP.
Barrichello looked to be the safer bet of the two Brawns to take pole after putting in the fastest lap time of the weekend in Q2. But, with fuel on board, the Brazilian fell behind both Button and Red Bull's Racing Seb Vettel.
"I was very, very happy with the car in Q2, and it came to me as a surprise," Barrichello said of Button's final run.
"It was a great effort from Jenson, he is doing a great job and deserves to be there."
Speaking of his own lap, which eventually proved to be 0.235s off Button's pace, the Brazilian added: "I had a good lap, I may have been a bit early on the track and that is the only missed opportunity.
"The lap was good, well within the limits."
Turning his attention to Sunday's 66-lap grand prix, Barrichello is confident he has the car needed to challenge Button for the race win.
"We have a good car for the race," he said. "I am still fighting. Jenson is really doing well at this minute and I just have to try harder to try and get him."
