Recovering Ferrari driver takes to the track in a go-kart
Felipe Massa has made his first tentative steps on the road to a Formula One comeback by driving a go-kart.
The outing was the first such since the Brazilian's horrific accident during qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix in July.
Massa was accompanied by his doctor, Dino Altmann, who suggested the Ferrari ace should not drive for more than an hour to avoid back pain.
In the event, however, rain at the Sao Paulo track halted the 28-year-old's outing after just seven laps.
A source close to Massa, who suffered a fractured skull after a loose spring pierced his crash helmet at the Hungaroring, said he did not feel any pain or discomfort.
"He was in very good condition and he said to the doctor he was feeling OK. There were no complaints," the source said.
"He had been a bit worried about the pressure of his helmet on the part of his head where he suffered the fracture, but it was OK.
"He would like to be back for the last race (in Abu Dhabi on November 1) but that depends on further tests with the FIA doctor."
Ferrari team boss Stefano Domenicali has refused to rule out the possibility that Massa could be back in an F1 car before the end of the current season.
