Toyota driver hit in pocket following incident in Brazil

Jarno Trulli has paid for his aggressive confrontation of Adrian Sutil in the dramatic Brazilian Grand Prix with a £6,000 fine. The Italian Toyota driver nearly came to blows with Force India's Sutil following a collision in the opening lap that resulted in both drivers withdrawing from the race. Veteran Trulli put a wheel onto the grass whilst attempting to pass Sutil around the outside at one point of the Interlagos track and consequently went spinning into the back of the German's car. As Trulli collided with a wall, Sutil hurtled across the infield grass and his momentum carried him back onto the track where he was hit for a second time, on this occasion by Renault's Fernando Alonso. Alonso was also forced out of the race, and whilst the double world champion clambered from his car, Trulli furiously confronted Sutil. It was clear that Trulli was accusing the Italian of causing the accident as he gesticulated at him angrily, although the stewards decided in their investigation that it was a racing incident requiring no further action. Instead, the stewards punished Trulli with a fine for failing to leave the track when directed by marshals and for his inappropriate behaviour towards Sutil.

Dramatic

McLaren were also fined £30,000 for another dramatic moment in the race when Heikki Kovalainen departed the pits with the fuel hose still dangerously attached to his car. The incident occurred at the end of the first lap as both Kovalainen and fellow Finn Kimi Raikkonen had suffered damage to their cars in separate accidents. Kovalainen caused a flash fire when he pulled directly in front of Raikkonen, spraying the 2007 world champion's Ferrari with fuel. Raikkonen was unharmed, whilst Kovalainen pulled over outside the Brawn garage where that team's mechanics courteously attended to him by removing the offending hose. The incident was ruled as an unsafe release from the pits by stewards and in addition to the fine imposed on McLaren, 25 seconds were added to Kovalainen's race time, with him consequently dropping from ninth to 12th place.
