Team boss "worried" after World Champion's impressive Ferrari test
Yamaha MotoGP boss Davide Brivio admits he's "worried" that Valentino Rossi's impressive lap times during his Barcelona test with Ferrari this week could inspire him to leave the team.
The Italian, seven-times a World Champion in the premier category of bike racing, spent two days testing a F2008 car at Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya.
Rossi set a best time of one minute 21.900 seconds on his second day behind the wheel, an effort which was just 0.087s short of the pole position time set by former Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen at the 2008 Spanish Grand Prix.
Although yet to decide on his long-term future, Rossi stated prior to the test that he has "some time left" racing bikes and added that if he was to switch to four wheels, he would probably go rallying.
However, given his display in Barcelona, Brivio fears his rider could have a change of heart after all when his current contract expires this year.
"I have to be worried about these excellent times because Valentino really could get the desire to change sport," he told
Gazzetta dello Sport.
Rossi, who committed himself to two wheels back in 2006 having tested extensively for Ferrari, said a switch to the Ducati MotoGP team was another possibility.
"As of tomorrow my job is to ride a motorbike," the 30-year-old told
Gazzetta dello Sport after his Ferrari test.
"I'll decide my future in a few months: I've also had an offer from Ducati. It'll all be clear in a few months."
