Webber not expecting big things from Red Bull in Valencia

Mark Webber is expecting another tough weekend for Red Bull in Valencia at the European Grand Prix, as they try to end their recent bad run. Red Bull dominated the early parts of the season and a one-two in Monaco last month signified how far in front of the chasing pack they were. However, Webber and team-mate Sebastian Vettel have not enjoyed themselves in the last two races with them both finishing off the podium. Their on-track collision in Turkey was followed by a tough time in Canada as they finished fourth and fifth, almost 40 seconds adrift of winner Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton has spearheaded one-two finishes with McLaren team-mate Jenson Button in Istanbul and Montreal to take up leadership of the championship by three points from his fellow Briton.

Points

Ahead of Sunday's European Grand Prix around the port circuit of Valencia, Webber now finds himself in third place in the standings six points adrift, and that gap could increase given Red Bull have not scored a point in the two races to date in the Spanish city. "Looking to Valencia, it's another venue that might not be that easy for us," said Webber. "But we surprised ourselves in Canada where we were a little more competitive than we thought we would be. "It was a tight group as we finished behind the main teams, McLaren and Ferrari, but I still think in Valencia we have a good chance to get good results. "I wouldn't pick it as a venue where we're going to go and get an easy victory because I don't think the layout of the circuit is one that suits us so much. "But it's part of the championship, we have to compete on all the tracks, and that's how it is." The pendulum could then swing back Red Bull's way for the two races that follow in Britain and Germany as Silverstone and Hockenheim are power circuits that should play to the team's strengths. Webber added: "Looking at the races after Valencia, I think we can be a bit stronger again."
