Swiss team forced to wait until new season to drop BMW
BMW-Sauber will wait until the end of the current Formula One season before changing their names.
A spokesman for the Swiss-based team said on Thursday that although they are allowed to change their name, it will have to wait until the end of the season.
German car manufacturer BMW quite Formula One at the end of last year, and Sauber now have Ferrari engines powering them.
The team still carry the name of their former owners though, but are looking to drop the BMW as soon as possible.
The governing International Automobile Federation (FIA)'s Formula One commission had agreed at a meeting that they could change their name, but it will not be until 2011.
Unless the team is bought out then they will return to their original name of Sauber, before being purchased by BMW in 2005.
BMW-Sauber, who have Spaniard Pedro de la Rosa and Japan's Kamui Kobayashi as their drivers, have just one point as they prepare for the European Grand Prix in Valencia on Sunday.
