Russian's manager confirms vague new role
Russian Formula One driver Vitaly Petrov has agreed to link up with Pirelli - but it's unclear just how substantial the link will be.
On a rather confusing morning in Abu Dhabi, with a series of updates on Petrov's position followed by a series of contradictions, it was eventually confirmed that the Russian will test the company's new range of tyres for the next two days and has agreed to other events later this year.
"The cooperation between Vitaly and Pirelli will continue in March, when he will take part in a major Pirelli event in St. Petersburg," Petrov's manager said.
However, it's unclear whether Petrov is now Pirelli's 'official test driver', with the 27-year-old's manager, perhaps tellingly, refusing to comment on speculation linking her client with Caterham as a replacement for Jarno Trulli.
Petrov himself has been left without a drive for 2012 after Lotus announced former world champion Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean would team up for the coming campaign.
