'New category of grandstand' to be available for fans in 2012
Singapore Grand Prix organisers are to inaugurate a new grandstand experience for spectators at their 2012 race, as they continue to strive to keep the night event ahead of the game.
The Marina Bay circuit that winds through the city's streets has been widely hailed as being a big success since joining the calendar nearly four years ago and in addition to the continued novelty of it - it remains the only F1 event to take place completely during the evening - is seen as one of the most commercially important race weekends of the year for teams and sponsors.
Ahead of this September's fifth ever event, Singapore officials have revealed "a new category of grandstand" will be available in 2012 which will be situated at turn three.
The 'premier grandstand' will include food, an exclusive bar, cushioned seats and special merchandise privileges at a cost per ticket of S$2,128 (£1,079).
Chairman of the Singapore GP Mr. Teo Hock Seng said: "We've been blessed with great reviews both locally and abroad but with next year being our fifth race, it's important that we keep on innovating and listening to our loyal supporters in order to improve on our product offerings.
"The one thing that remains the same is that our tickets are truly value-for-money and fans can expect exciting action on the track, accompanied with a stellar entertainment line-up come September, making the 2012 Formula 1 Singtel Singapore Grand Prix a must-attend event on the Formula 1 calendar."
Early-bird general admission tickets for the September 21-23 event went on sale before Christmas, with that phase running until April 30 before the regular sale period begins.
