Red Bull driver favourite despite starting behind Fernando Alonso
Sebastian Vettel is 7/2 favourite with
Sky Bet to win the German Grand Prix and earn his first-ever victory on home soil.
The closest he has come to topping the podium at Hockenheim was a third-place finish in 2010 when Fernando Alonso came out on top.
Drivers' Championship leader Alonso qualified on pole and is 2/1 to repeat his feat from two years ago and seal a victory that would extend his lead at the top of the standings.
His closest rival in the standings is Mark Webber, who was forced into a gearbox change ahead of qualifying, which has resulted in a five-place grid penalty for the Red Bull driver.
Webber is now out to 14/1 to take the chequered flag, with McLaren duo Lewis Hamilton (11/1) and Jenson Button (12/1) ahead of him in the odds, despite both starting on the fourth row of the grid.
Subsequently, the betting makes Sunday's Grand Prix look like a two-horse race and
Sky Bet F1 trader Tamas Feher believes this could be the case.
He said: "Although Alonso is starting from pole, I believe Vettel has got a better chance.
"It is going to be between the two of them, unless it rains, which - at the moment - looks unlikely. In dry conditions the Red Bull is a superior car to Ferrari, as we saw at Silverstone."
Feher added: "The fight for third will be interesting, as Webber has got a five place grid-penalty, so it's Schumacher starting on the second row of the grid."
