Ajax take Dutch Cup honours

Ajax hammered bitter rivals Feyenoord 4-1 in the second leg of the Dutch Cup final to take home the trophy.

Ajax hammered bitter rivals Feyenoord 4-1 in the second-leg of Dutch Cup final contest to take home the trophy on Thursday.

The triumph will cushion Ajax's disappointment at finishing second in the Eredivisie as Steve McLaren's FC Twente took the championship at the weekend.

The win was made all the more sweeter for Martin Jol's side by beating their adversaries to take the cup.

Ajax went into the reverse tie 2-0 ahead following the first leg encounter, which saw Siem De Jong notch a brace.

And the 21-year-old playmaker was on the double again to help his side ease to a 6-1 aggregate triumph.

Luis Suarez opening the scoring for Ajax just four minutes in as Feyenoord keeper misjudged his long range effort.

De Jong doubled the advantage before Jon Dahl Tomasson pulled one back for Feyenoord after a rare foray forward.

But De Jong soon restored the two-goal lead as Suarez rounding off a convincing win by converting the fourth.
