Milan stopper Jaap Stam will join Ajax in the summer after agreeing to return to Holland.
Milan stopper Jaap Stam has agreed to return to his homeland to join Dutch outfit Ajax at the end of the season. The Italian side had repeatedly denied that the much decorated defender was set to leave San Siro, but Ajax boss Danny Blind has pulled off something of a coup to land his man.
Stam was seeking a return to De Eredivise, where he previously made his name at rivals PSV Eindhoven, as he was keen to see his family grow up in Holland.
The former Manchester United and Lazio man, who has won 67 caps for his homeland, has signed a two year deal to ensure he sees out the twilight of his career at the Amsterdam ArenA.
Ajax technical director Martin van Geel confirmed the signing of Stam, voicing his hope that he can have a positive effect on Blind's faltering young charges next season.
"Jaap is an experienced defender who could make a big impact for our young, talented team," van Geel told NOS.
