Dustin Johnson chasing US Open history after return to world No 1

Dustin Johnson has set his sights on making US Open history after returning to world No 1 at the FedEx St. Jude Classic.
Johnson eased to a six-stroke victory over Andrew Putnam at TPC Southwind to leapfrog Justin Thomas at the top of the world rankings, four weeks on from losing the world No 1 title.
No player has followed success the week before the US Open with victory in the second men's major of the year, although Johnson is confident of breaking that record and winning the event for a second time.
"Why not be the first one to do it?" Johnson said. "I don't know why it hasn't happened but the US Open is a tough, tough place to go and win.
"I did win in 2016, so I know what it takes and I'm going to have to play a lot like I did this week if I want to win next week."
Johnson's victory is his second of the season and his 18th on the PGA Tour, with the 33-year-old proud of his latest statement ahead of his visit to Shinnecock Hills.

"I mean winning this week, I think is bigger confidence booster than being number one in the world," Johnson added.
"Playing the way I did all week, playing the way I did today (Sunday), knowing everything that was on the line, gives me a lot of confidence going into next week (US Open).
"I think it was a big win. It was a big statement by myself. I'm proud of the way I played, the way I handled it."
