Colin Montgomerie hasn't secured a spot at next month's Open Championship yet, but still has three routes to Sandwich open to him.
The BMW International in Munich counts towards a current form mini-money list which ends on Sunday - two spots are up for grabs there - and the coming French and Scottish Opens each offer a place.
Monty certainly made a decent start in his latest bid to make the field for the third major of 2011 as he marked his 48th birthday with a creditable opening round of 70.
That was a big improvement on his last two starts - missed cuts at the Wales and Italian Opens.
Montgomerie has not missed an Open since 1989 and was runner-up to Tiger Woods at St Andrews in 2005 - one of his five second places in majors.
