The world No 6 got off to a fast start on her way to a third successive 67 at Emirates Golf Club, as Davies stuttered to a five-over 77 to slip 12 strokes off the pace.

Feng, who has already secured the Ladies European Tour's order of merit title, posted successive gains from the second and followed a tap-in birdie at the sixth by picking up two more strokes in a front-nine 31.

The top-seed temporarily moved 10 shots clear of the rest of the field when she rolled in a 12-footer at the 11th, but carded a first dropped shot of the week at the next and posted another bogey two holes later.

Feng posted a seventh gain of the day at the par-four 17th and two-putted the last four par, but saw her lead eaten in to as home star Thidapa Suwannapura closed her round-of-the-day 65 with six consecutive birdies.

"I think the front nine was really good; I had many birdie chances and a lot of them were really close," Feng said. "I was happy that I made birdie on the 17th.

"I think on the back nine I misjudged the wind a couple of times, and then there was one poor drive on the 12th hole."

It was another disappointing day for Charley Hull, with three bogeys in-a-row before the turn leaving her one over for the week alongside first round joint-leader Liz Young.

Nanna Koerstz Madsen, needing a top three finish this week to have a chance of winning LET's Rookie of the Year award, struggled to a four-over 76 and lies in a tie for 41st.
