Captain gets backing of Ryder Cup rookie
Oliver Wilson insists captain Nick Faldo should not be blamed for Europe's 16½ - 11½ defeat to the United States in the Ryder Cup.
An inquest has begun over where it went wrong for Europe in Valhalla, as the US won their first Ryder Cup in nine years.
A number of players were questioned after Sunday's defeat, with Faldo's singles tactics causing particular concern.
Lee Westwood and Sergio Garcia both backed Faldo on Sunday and rookie Wilson has also refused to blame his captain.
"We did the media last night, and they were on about him straight away," Wilson told
Sky Sports News.
"I think the players jumped into the questions and said what they felt. At the end of the day Nick did everything he could.
"It was special for a lot of us playing under him, especially with Olli (Jose Maria Olazabal) as well, he (Faldo) did a good job, it just wasn't good enough.
"He let us go onto the course we didn't perform as well as we needed to."
Slated
Wilson, who lost his singles match to Boo Weekley 4&2, admitted he was aware of the criticism of Faldo, but insisted it was a team decision.
"They (the media) were slating him for the singles pairings," Wilson said.
"We chose them (singles pairings) as a group. It wasn't like he did it on his own.
"We all had an input, we all picked where we wanted to play. When we saw the line-upon paper we were all pretty happy."
