South African hoping for return to form in Switzerland

Trevor Immelman admits he is not expecting to be handed a Presidents Cup wildcard by Greg Norman - unless he can produce something spectacular in Switzerland this week. The South African - winner of The Masters last year - has endured a frustrating season with an injury to his left wrist sidelining him for much of it. The 29-year-old has dropped to 60th in the world rankings having missed out on playing at the US Open, the Open and the USPGA over the past couple of months. His lack of action has also ensured that he had failed to qualify for the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup play-offs leading him to accept the chance to play in the European Masters this week. The tournament in Crans-sur-Sierre, Switzerland will be only his third competitive appearance since May and Immelman accepts that he is now unlikely to feature in the plans of International Team captain Greg Norman for the Presidents Cup in October. "I'm sure Greg is looking for two guys who have been playing well lately. I've not even been playing," he stated. "I've been struggling since February," he said. "The season as a whole has been very frustrating. "I'm hoping I'm through all of that now. I thought I was at the Bridgestone (world championship) and I was fine for a couple of days, but then struggled through the weekend. "It seems to start causing problems when I am playing out of the rough and hitting drivers. "Coming here (Switzerland) I've not really been able to practise too much or prepare as well as I usually would. "My expectations aren't great this week. The fields in these tournaments are so strong now that you're going to have to play phenomenal golf to win."

Singh hoping for wildcard

Jeev Milkha Singh of India - who is also competing in Switzerland - is hoping that Norman will make him one of his two wild cards picks after finishing 12th on the International points list. Immelman's compatriot Rory Sabbatini, pushed out of an automatic spot by YE Yang's PGA victory, looks set to secure one of the two on offer. Singh, now recovered from the rib muscle problem which kept him out of the Open, said of his prospects: "I would love it, but let's see what happens. "The game is coming round. I'm happy with it and I'm striking it well - the confidence is coming back after the injury."
