Melissa Reid held onto her lead at the Turkish Open despite a shaky start to her second round on Monday.
Reid, the overnight leader after shooting her lowest score as a professional in round one - an eight under par 65 - began day two with a double bogey on the par three 13th at the Carya Golf Club in Belek, Antalya.
But the 27-year-old from Derby recovered back to level par for the day with birdies on the 14th and 17th holes. She then bogeyed the par three second, and stormed home with five birdies in her last six holes to post a four under par 69.
Her 12 under par total kept the rest of the field at bay at the halfway stage, giving her a three-stroke lead over Scotland's Pamela Pretswell, who matched Reid’s opening-round 65 to lift her from 17th into second.
Dame Laura Davies, who led the early stages in round one on Sunday with a 66, went into day two in second place but suffered a double bogey on the par four 10th to add to five bogeys and only three birdies as she carded 77, dropping her to joint ninth.
France's Gwladys Nocera signed off a steady 70 to add to her first-round 68 to stay in third.
Reid said: "I just short-sided myself on the par three 13th and I misjudged the chip, so I was a little bit frustrated, but at the same time it gave me a kick up the bum.
"I played okay. I didn’t play great this morning, I feel fine now. I tried to stay patient because I knew that there were birdie opportunities out there. I knew at the start of the day that I wanted to get to 12 under so that was my goal the whole day.
"Luckily enough I started to hole a few putts and I hit a great four iron into six, which left me a good eagle opportunity and it was good to finish with a birdie on the last as well, to get to 12 under par.
Confident
"This is the position you want to be in at halfway. Laura is playing well and Gwladys, so a low round out there and it will be a good competition on Tuesday and Wednesday."
While Reid has four Ladies European Tour tournament titles, including the 2010 Turkish Airlines Ladies Open, Pretswell is targeting her first on the tour after three top 10s and a top 12 so far this year.
Pretswell, who had eight birdies in her second round, said: "Yesterday I played well but didn’t get my putts. Today I played some really solid golf and made quite a few birdies out there, which was nice."
Carly Booth, who moved into fourth after completing identical rounds of 70 for a halfway total of six under, said: “It’s funny because both days I’ve had the exact same stats: 11 fairways, 14 greens and 30 putts."
The field is cut to the leading 60 professionals and those tied for 60th place for the final two rounds.
