Davis Love III happy to caddie for son, Dru, at US Open

Davis Love III is relishing the challenge ahead at Erin Hills, although he will be carrying clubs rather than swinging them as he caddies for his son at the US Open.
Last year's winning Ryder Cup captain will be on the bag for Davis Love IV, better known as Dru, as he makes his major championship debut having been added to the field as first alternate from sectional qualifying in Georgia.
Davis has been struggling with a back problem in recent months and was eight shots shy of qualifying in Columbus last month, but he has declared himself fit enough to carry his son's clubs around in Wisconsin.
"I'm excited for him," said Love as he watched Dru play a practice round with new US Ryder Cup captain Jim Furyk. "I've played with a bunch of 19 and 20-year-olds, but it makes me feel old that he's playing.
"I'm excited for him, and it's going to be a lot of fun."
Dru becomes the third member of the Love dynasty to compete in the US Open. His grandfather, Davis Love Jnr, played in the tournament seven times, while his father made 23 appearances and posted five top-10 finishes.
Love III suffered an agonising near-miss in 1996 at Oakland Hills, when he bogeyed the final two holes - missing a three-foot putt for par at the last - to finish just one stroke behind surprise champion Steve Jones.
Dru, 24, has played in only one PGA Tour event in his career at the 2015 RSM Classic, a tournament which his father hosts, but he failed to make the halfway cut.
