Jess Ennis-Hill came third in the 100m hurdles at the GreatCity games in Manchester on her return to competitive action.
The reigning Olympic heptathlon champion has not raced since taking part in the Anniversary Games at the Olympic Stadium in July 2013.
Since then, Ennis-Hill has taken time out to have a baby, while the 29-year-old has also struggled with an Achilles injury.
But she was back in action on the streets of Manchester for an event which took place on a specially-designed track in a cordoned-off area of the Deansgate area of city centre.
European 100m hurdles champion Tiffany Porter proved too strong for a four-strong all-British field as she powered home in a time of 12.86secs.
Ennis-Hill clocked 13.14secs but had to settle for third after just being edged out by 20-year-old Lucy Hatton, with Serita Solomon rounding out the field.
Meanwhile, Ennis-Hill's heptathlon rival Katarina Johnson Thompson was just beaten by fellow Briton Meghan Beesley in the women's 200m hurdles.
Beesley won the event for the second year in a row in a time of 25.28secs, just 0.03secs ahead of European Indoor pentathlon champion Johnson Thompson.
Like Ennis-Hill, Greg Rutherford also won gold at the Olympic Stadium on ‘Super Saturday’ and he was successful in the long jump at Deansgate.
Rutherford won the event with his first jump of the competition as he prepares for a tilt at the world title later this year to add to his Olympic, European and Commonwealth crowns.
