Josh Harrison stars in MLB success for Pittsburgh over Detroit

Josh Harrison was a star performer for Pittsburgh who collected three home runs in the seventh innings to post a 5-4 victory over Detroit.

Gerrit Cole also pitched six innings to hand Detroit their first defeat of the season.

Kansas City notched six runs in the eighth innings as they eased to a 12-3 triumph over Minnesota.      

The victory moves the Royals to 7-0 this season, which is the second-best start in franchise history. In 2003 they won their first nine fixtures.     

In a low-scoring contest on the west coast, Colorado beat San Francisco 2-0.

The runs came in the fourth and seventh innings, the former courtesy of Troy Tulowitzki who drove in his fifth of the season.

New York recovered to edge out Baltimore 6-5, as they posted four runs in the seventh innings. 

This included Stephen Drew’s pinch-hit grand slam off Orioles’ right-hander Tommy Hunter.

Hunter had come on in the seventh after left-hander Wei-Yin Chen had exited with a 4-2 advantage.

Baltimore had built a lead on a two-run homer from Adam Jones off Yankees right-hander Michael Pineda with two outs in the sixth.

And in Toronto, right-hander Jake Odorizzi allowed just two hits over eight innings to help Tampa Bay see off the Blue Jays 2-1.

It was their third successive win to spoil Toronto's home opener which attracted a sell out crowd of 48,414.
