British Basketball League: Surrey Heat go second with victory over Sheffield Sharks

In stark contrast, Creon Raftopoulos and his team are flying, having chalked up a fourth league success in five games to cement themselves as one of the early season pace-setters.

For the most part, it had been a relatively tight contest, with the Sharks buoyed by their convincing BBL win against Cheshire Jets 24 hours earlier.

With the usually red-hot Gage Daye having a rare off night for Sharks and both Mike Tuck and Olu Babalola playing on four fouls, they just couldn't find the answers when Heat stepped things up in the final quarter, mainly through the excellent work of Martelle McLemore.

In addition to the top scoring McLemore (25), there were solid contributions from Chavis Holmes (13) who dished up six assists, Frank Holmes who had a double-double and Albert Margai who hit three triples in a nice cameo from downtown.

Meanwhile, Cheshire Jets suffered a second hammering inside two days with a 98-59 thumping at home to Worcester Wolves.

The visitors had it sewn up by half-time, leading by 32-13 and were helped by some sensational three-point shooting by Daniel Belgrave.

He sunk five triples on his way to a game high 26 points as head coach Paul James and his Wolves team completed a weekend win double having already beaten Mersey Tigers in comprehensive style on Saturday night.

Glasgow Rocks registered their first home win of the season by edging Manchester Giants 88-85 to reach the BBL Cup quarter-finals.

It was always looking like it would go until the last few seconds and so it proved. However, the Giants and Devan Bailey in particular, will be disappointed at missing far too many free-throws, the guard missed four in a row inside the last two minutes and it proved to be costly.

EJ Harrison was the star performer for the Rocks and fittingly, he was the man with the composure during crunch time to get the Rocks safely over the line and set up a last eight encounter at Sheffield.
