The British National Road Race Championships for men and women will take place on Sunday, June 23, over the proposed course for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

For the first time in its history, the British National Time Trial Championships will take place in the same week, with the race against the clock taking place on Thursday, June 20.

Tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins won the men's road race in 2011 in Northumberland, when Olympic silver medallist Lizzie Armitstead won the women's title.

In 2012, Ian Stannard succeeded Wiggins as men's champion, with Sharon Laws the women's winner in North Yorkshire.

British Cycling's Cycle Sport and membership director Jonny Clay said: "In recent years we have seen our national road championships won by riders who between them have won numerous Olympic and world championship medals, as well as the Tour de France.

"The stature of the event and the calibre of the riders who contest it have been reflected in the competition to host the race for 2013.
