UCI Track Cycling World Cup: Jason Kenny wins second medal with silver in individual sprint

Jason Kenny claimed his second medal of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Guadalajara, Mexico, by winning silver in the men’s individual sprint on the last day.
Kenny, who had already taken gold in the men’s team sprint 24 hours earlier, was beaten 2-0 in the gold-medal final by Australia’s Matthew Glaetzer following two closely contested heats.
Kenny had earlier beaten New Zealand’s Sam Webster 2-0 in the semi-final to book his place in the decider.
In the women’s keirin, Britain’s Jess Varnish was eliminated at the first-round stage. She finished fourth in her heat and although she had a second chance to progress in the repechage, she was narrowly beaten to the single qualifying place on offer by Australia’s Anna Meares.
In the men’s omnium, Jon Dibben could only finish 19th, while in the women’s omnium, Katie Archibald had to settle for 17th.
Britain finished the event second in the medal standings, with two golds and two silvers. Australia topped the table with three golds and two silvers.
The second of the season’s three UCI Track Cycling World Cups takes place in London from December 5-7.
