Geraint Thomas dropped to fourth overall at the Tour de Suisse despite claiming another top-10 finish behind stage three winner Peter Sagan.

Thomas remains seven seconds behind leader Tom Dumoulin (Giant-Alpecin),  who came home just a place ahead of the Welshman in fifth on the uphill drag to Olivone.

He was well positioned with Team Sky compatriot Sergio Henao as a reduced peloton contested the victory but, despite their best efforts, it was Sagan who emerged triumphant after a dominant display of power.

The Tinkoff-Saxo rider latched on to Daniel Moreno’s wheel in a twisting finale, but he surged past his Katusha rival on a technical corner before wrapping up his fifth win of the season.

Thomas and Henao both battled behind, and crossed the line in sixth and ninth places respectively.

Despite being credited with the same time as Sagan, bonus seconds meant Thomas dropped to fourth place in the overall standings.

Moreno is now second, five seconds behind Dumoulin who won the opening prologue on Sunday to take the lead, while Sagan sits in third on the same time as the Spaniard.
