Team Sky lead high-pedigree field for Aviva Tour of Britain

Team Sky will be among nine UCI WorldTour teams taking part in September’s Aviva Tour of Britain.

The Tour de France winners will be joined at the eight-day race by Etixx – Quick-Step, Cannondale-Garmin, Lotto Soudal, Movistar, LottoNL-Jumbo, Tinkoff-Saxo, BMC Racing and IAM Cycling.

The 12th edition of the race will start in Anglesey on September 6 and end in London on September 13.

Sir Bradley Wiggins’ eponymous WIGGINS team will also be on the start line, as will former England wicket-keeper Matt Prior’s ONE Pro Cycling.

Last year’s race proved to be good preparation for the UCI Road World Championships a week later and organisers are consequently hoping to attract a high-pedigree field once again this time around.

Race director Mick Bennett said: "This is undoubtedly the strongest line-up of teams to have appeared in the Aviva Tour of Britain.

"In 2014 we saw Michal Kwiatowski, Sir Bradley Wiggins and the BMC Racing Team all go on to win world titles immediately after the race and we are sure this year's Tour will provide an equal platform for riders going on to target the World Championships."
