Britain's Lizzie Armitstead has won the UCI Women's Road World Cup for the second year in succession after snatching the title with victory in the last race of the series on Saturday.

Armitstead went into the GP de Plouay in France in third place in the standings, 27 points down on leader Jolien D'hoore, of Belgium, but overhauled her deficit with her third win of the series and ninth of the season.

Nine riders broke away from the peloton and contested a sprint finish, which Armitstead won ahead of runner-up Emma Johansson, of Sweden, and third-placed Pauline Ferrand-Prevot, of France.

The UCI Women's Road World Cup is a nine-race series starting in March.

Armitstead's previous World Cup wins this season came at the Trofeo Alfredo Binda in March and the Philadelphia Cycling Classic in June.
