Chris Froome is set to miss this month’s UCI Road World Championships due to the broken foot he sustained at the Vuelta a Espana, according to Sir Dave Brailsford.

The Team Sky rider had been on British Cycling's longlist for the worlds, which take place in Richmond, United States, from September 19-27.

Froome sustained the fracture in a crash on stage 11 of the Vuelta and quit the race the following morning.

On Froome's chance of racing in Richmond, Team Sky principal Sir Dave Brailsford told the BBC: "It looks unlikely. The fracture will take a while to heal."
