Jason Kenny MBE

Last Updated: 15/03/11 11:53am

Despite his relatively young age, Jason Kenny has already achieved more in the last three years than most riders do in their entire careers.

After winning multiple world and European titles in the junior ranks, Kenny thrust himself into Great Britain's Olympic Games squad in 2008 and came away from Beijing with two medals hanging proudly around his neck.

The first of those was gold and came in the team sprint event where he joined forces with Sir Chris Hoy and Jamie Staff and edged out the same French team that had beaten the team to the world title by over half a second just five months earlier.

And on the way to that memorable triumph, the trio also smashed the unofficial world record with their time of 42.95 seconds in the qualifying rounds.

Three days later Jason also added a silver medal to his tally after going head-to-head with team-mate Hoy in the individual sprint final.

Those performances didn't go unnoticed and in the 2009 New Year Honours, he was bestowed an MBE for his services to sport.

Never one to rest on his laurels, Kenny continued his fine form into the 2009 season and scooped another silver medal in the team sprint at the World Championships in Poland.

That progression showed no signs of abating in 2010 and Kenny added a bronze World Championships medal to his collection in the team sprint before snaring the British Champion's jerseys in both the individual and team sprint events.

His 2010-11 World Cup campaign started superbly as the 22-year-old struck gold alongside Hoy and Matt Crampton in Melbourne as well scooping second place in the individual sprint.

A silver in the team sprint followed in Cali and after sitting out the trip to Beijing, Kenny returned to action in Manchester and followed up his fine second-placed finish in the individual sprint with team sprint bronze alongside fellow Sky Track Cycling stars Hoy and Crampton.
