Lizzie Armitstead released from hospital after Women's Tour crash

British Olympic cyclist Lizzie Armitstead has been released from hospital after crashing moments after winning the first stage of the Women's Tour.
The incident happened in Aldeburgh, Suffolk, when Armitstead raised her hands as she crossed the finish line to celebrate winning the opening stage of the event.
Armitstead reportedly hit race director Mick Bennett and photographers, with the initial incident leading to a pile-up as other riders tried to avoid a collision.
Boels Dolmans rider Armitstead, who won silver for Team GB in the road race at the 2012 London Olympics, received medical attention at the scene before being taken to Norwich and Norfolk University Hospital in an ambulance.
But she has now been allowed to leave and it has been confirmed she did not suffer any broken bones in the crash.
"After crossing the line with her arms in the air, stage winner Lizzie Armitstead appeared to lose control and veer left, clipping photographers positioned beyond the finish line," read an official statement from the Women's Tour.
"Lizzie was immediately attended to by race medical staff at the finish line who dealt with the incident before being she was taken to hospital.
"Everyone from the Aviva Women’s Tour wishes Lizzie all the best for a speedy recovery and will make no further comment at this stage."
Laura Trott wished her Team GB team-mate a speedy recovery, tweeting: "Really hoping @L_ArmiTstead is ok after a horrible crash after winning the first stage of the #AvivaWT2015."
Meanwhile, British Cycling tweeted: "Best wishes to Britain's Lizzie Armitstead who has won stage one of the Women's Tour but has crashed after the finish line."
