Bikes will be fitted with cameras at next week's UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Paris, the sport's world governing body has revealed.

The move follows the successful introduction of cameras to bikes in road races, footage from which has proved universally popular.

The cameras will be used only in certain events in Paris, with every rider in the race carrying one beneath their saddle in order to ensure fairness.

The images will be broadcast live to television and online viewers.

'Exciting progress'

International Cycling Union president Brian Cookson said: "The UCI wishes to increase cycling's appeal among the fans.

"This is important and exciting progress for the track and also for cycling as a whole, which will benefit from these technological innovations."

The UCI Track Cycling World Championships take place from Wednesday, February 18, to Sunday, February 22.
