Sligo produced a late rally to defeat Wicklow by 0-12 to 0-10 in their All-Ireland SFC qualifier in Aughrim.

The Yeats County never trailed during this error-strewn affair and held a two-point advantage at the interval, but Wicklow battled back to level matters with 10 minutes remaining.

However, substitute Stephen Coen and Brian Curran scored late points to seal Sligo’s progress and avenge their qualifier loss to the Garden County in 2011.

Sligo got off to a great start in Aughrim, scoring the opening four points to put daylight between the sides.

James Hynes broke the deadlock before further points from Charlie Harrison, Mark Brehony and Adrian Marren, who kicked a superb score from a sideline ball for the second successive game.

Seanie Furlong got Wicklow off the mark with two points, while Anthony McLoughlin and Leighton Glynn were also on target for the hosts.

A late free from Marren and ’45’ from goalkeeper Aidan Devaney helped Sligo into an 0-8 to 0-6 lead at half time, but their lead was halved after the restart as midfielder James Stafford pointed.

Both teams were wayward in front of goal, with points from Harrison and Coen sandwiching a flurry of wides.

Substitutes Niall Gaffney and Daragh O’Sullivan brought Wicklow level, but Coen and Curran struck late on to book Sligo’s progress.
