Congress may prevent Dublin from having two Super 8s games at Croke Park

Donegal GAA are set to table a motion at Congress to prevent any county from playing two games at Croke Park during the Super 8s.

Every county played one home game, one away game, and one game at Croker in last year's inaugural staging of the quarter-final format.

However, Dublin played at the Jones' Road venue twice in the Super 8s, nominating it as a 'home venue' for the meeting with Roscommon, and playing the Ulster champions there as part of the 'Croke Park round'.

It caused controversy in the build-up, and Tír Chonaill brought a formal complaint to the GAA beforehand.

"I sat down with Donegal," explained Fergal McGill, the director of player, club & games administration, in November. "Myself and the Director General (Tom Ryan) sat down with them at the time and we explained to them that it would be a matter for Congress and to bring a motion. So it's a question for them for if they're going to or not. I suspect they may. I don't know."

"We're just calling for no county to be allowed to nominate Croke Park as a home venue. We think that's fair to everybody," Donegal chairman Michael McGrath told the Irish Independent.

With Jim Gavin's charges odds-on to reach the Super 8s as they pursue a fifth consecutive Sam Maguire triumph, they could be set to venture outside of Croke Park twice in the All-Ireland series.
