League round-up: Dublin brush off Mayo at Croke Park
Last Updated: 24/02/19 7:38am
There were wins for Dublin, Tyrone and Meath on Saturday in the Allianz Football League.
Dublin 1-12 Mayo 0-7, NFL Division 1
Although Mayo were widely fancied to cause Dublin real issues after they started with three wins from three in the league, James Horan's charges were comprehensively defeated at Croke Park.
The Dubs scorched into an early lead, with Cormac Costello netting to put daylight between the sides. The Connacht outfit's cause wasn't helped by a black card to Lee Keegan and a penalty save from Evan Comerford. Jim Gavin's side went in at the break, 1-6 to 0-3 ahead.
The Sky Blues pushed on in the second half to account for their great rivals with eight points to spare.
Tyrone 1-16 Monaghan 0-12, NFL Division 1
A Peter Harte goal set the tone early, as the Red Hands picked up their first win of the Division 1 campaign at home to Monaghan.
Mickey Harte's side had too much for their Ulster neighbours in the top-tier clash, to lift themselves out of the relegation zone and leapfrog the Farney County.
Malachy O'Rourke's charges have now lost three games on the bounce, after their opening round victory against Dublin.
Cork 1-9 Meath 2-12, NFL Division 2
Meath kept up their promotion chase with an emphatic victory over Cork on Lee-side. Andy McEntee's charges ran out six-point winners in a top-versus-bottom clash in the second tier.
Goals from Gavin McCoy and Barry Dardis helped the Royals to the two points on offer, as they ensured they will remain at the top of the Division 2 table.
With just one point from their opening four games, Ronan McCarthy's side find themselves in a real relegation scrap.
