Limerick's Sean Finn not satisfied with just one All-Ireland medal

Sean Finn says he wouldn't be happy to end his Limerick career with just one All-Ireland medal.

It's been quite the winter thus far in Limerick. The Treaty County is enjoying the fruits of what was a historic summer as John Kiely's hurlers ended a wait going back to 1973 for All-Ireland glory.

This young group succeeded where many before them faltered, and there is a hope across the county that they can achieve ever more in the coming years.

At 22, Finn says he wouldn't be happy with just a single All-Ireland.

"Obviously it's great to get one," he explained. "A lot of Limerick people in the past don't have any and they're probably deserving of one. They could say 'you must be happy with one'. But we're young, we're motivated and we want to win more. Hopefully I have another couple of years in me and hopefully I have a few more to back it up before I do pack it in.

"You just want to make the most of the moment and make the most of the couple of years that you do have. You don't know if you'll pick up an injury in the next couple of months that might rule you out for a season or two. So, I suppose considering we are young, it does benefit you in the couple of years.

"Obviously doing back-to-back is quite difficult but I suppose that's the aim, that's the focus to win it again. It's all great winning the one but you have to win a couple more."

However, they are conscious of the potential pitfalls and are eager to avoid the fate of Clare in 2013, who won an unlikely All-Ireland but then struggled for the following seasons.

"Going back to Clare in 2013, they probably should have won a couple of more," he opined. "You've to bear that in mind. They were young at the time and they didn't reach that success. A couple of Limerick teams early on in the 2000s probably could have won a couple of All-Irelands so you've to bear that in mind.

"It's got nothing to do with what they'd done after the All-Ireland final, it's just the way things are, how competitive the championship is. You need a rub of the green and we certainly got it this year. You don't know if that luck is going to go your way next year again."

However, Finn is of the opinion that Limerick have handled the success well up to this point.

"That's down to the group of lads that are there as well. They're naturally able to look after themselves and are well aware that the attention is on them, and how they must carry themselves in those situations. I think John [Kiely] has a huge part to play in that as well, and his management, bear in mind that we are young and we can't get carried away with it. I think a lot of lads bought into that and the attitude has been good over the last couple of months."

After a 45-year wait to bring Liam MacCarthy back to the Shannon-side city, they'll be eager to make hay while the sun is shining.
