Chaz Davies enjoyed a great day on his BMW at Motorland Aragon

Welshman Chaz Davies triumphed in both races at the Spanish round of the Superbike World Championship.

Chaz Davies: Twice came home in front of Sylvain Guintoli.

The BMW rider bagged his maiden world superbike race win in the opener at Motorland Aragon and then followed up by prevailing in race two as well.

However, a pair of second-place finishes were good enough for Aprilia's Sylvain Guintoli to grab the lead in the championship standings with 85 points, 22 clear of Davies.

Eugene Laverty failed to register a point in either of the Spanish races and the second factory Aprilia rider remained on 45 points and is third in the standings.

Laverty and pole-sitter Tom Sykes (Kawasaki) both led race one in the early stages but then suffered early technical problems which handed the lead to Davies, who went on to come home in front of Guintoli and Marco Melandri (BMW).

Jonathan Rea was next home on his Honda, with Loris Baz (Kawasaki), Jules Cluzel (Suzuki), Carlos Checa (Ducati), Michel Fabrizio (Aprilia), Leon Haslam (Honda) and Ayrton Badovini (Ducati) completing the top 10.

Failed to complete

Laverty began the day as joint-championship leader alongside his team mate Guintoli but endured further problems in race two and again failed to complete the race.

Davies, who claimed his maiden podium finish in this series at Aragon last year, again showed his liking for the track, coming home in front of Guintoli again, with Sykes in third.

Davide Giugliano (Aprilia) had looked booked for fourth in race one when an unfortunate technical problem forced him out on the last lap but he did manage fourth place in race two.

Melandri was next, and sixth went to Baz, with the top 10 rounded out by Cluzel, Checa, Haslam and Badovini.
