Dani Pedrosa will not be able to ride in this weekend's Catalunya Grand Prix after failing to recover from a broken right collarbone.
The Sabadell native suffered the injury in the French Grand Prix at Le Mans three weeks ago following a collision with Marco Simoncelli.
Pedrosa had surgery to insert a plate into the bone and although he had been hopeful that he would heal in time for the event, it has been announced that he will not take part.
A statement from his Repsol Honda team read: "Unfortunately, this weekend the Repsol Honda team will compete the fifth round of the 2011 MotoGP World Championship, the Grand Prix of Catalunya, without Dani Pedrosa.
"The Spaniard had surgery on the 18th May to repair a fractured right collarbone caused during his crash in the Le Mans race.
Conservative
"It was hoped that through rehabilitation he would be ready to participate this weekend in the Grand Prix of Catalunya, however, due the bone healing slower than anticipated he has been forced to follow a more conservative treatment.
"How the injury heals from this point on will determine the timetable for his return to competition."
Pedrosa had only recently returned to full fitness after fracturing his other collarbone in practice for the Japanese Grand Prix last season, an injury that effectively ended his 2010 championship hopes.
The latest setback leaves him 17 points adrift of Jorge Lorenzo in this year's standings with the likelihood of losing more ground on his rivals after Sunday's race.
"After France, i had surgery to stabilise the fracture of my right collarbone and hoped to be ready for Barcelona," Pedrosa told motogp.com.
"I pushed myself as bast as I could but I feel that my collarbone is not yet ready. I think I must rest for a while and recover properly."
Meanwhile, Simoncelli has been summoned to appear before race direction this weekend to discuss the controversial collision that caused the injury.
