WWE Main Event results: Cesaro beats Justin Gabriel with the Neutralizer

Has Swiss Superman edged closer to an Intercontinental Title match?

Cesaro downed Justin Gabriel on WWE Main Event to send out a message to Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler.

The Swiss Superman has narrowly failed to prise Ziggler’s title twice in recent weeks and remains desperate for another shot at a belt previously worn by luminaries such as Pat Patterson, The Rock, “Macho Man” Randy Savage, The Ultimate Warrior and Shawn Michaels.

Cesaro displayed his full repertoire in Alabama on Tuesday night, overpowering South African livewire Gabriel and defeating the former Nexus member with his trademark Neutralizer.

And with Ziggler embarking on somewhat of a losing streak – The Show-Off has been beaten by Rusev and Randy Orton over the last few days – Cesaro will no doubt fancy his chances of grabbing gold should he and the Clevelander lock horns again.

The Miz, meanwhile, has been rewarded for his two, albeit squiffy, victories over United States Champion Sheamus with a title match against the Irishman at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view later this month.

The Awesome One has conquered The Celtic Warrior with a roll-up pin and via count-out – thanks mainly to his loyal stunt double Damien Mizdow – and crowed about those triumphs on MizTV.

Mizdow joined the fun, too, donning an orange wig and faux bushy eyebrows to masquerade as Sheamus, though The Miz’s buddy was soon checking his teeth were still intact when the real Sheamus emerged and Brogue Kicked him.

Elsewhere on Main Event, Rusev dispatched Big E with The Accolade, while R-Truth bested Tyson Kidd after the Hart Dungeon graduate had been distracted by the wife Natalya's presence on the ring apron.
