Sheffield Steelers coach Ben Simon has labelled Wednesday night's Challenge Cup showdown with Hull Stingrays a must-win game, but he is under no illusions at the size of the task ahead.
Steelers welcome Stingrays to Sheffield having won eight of their last nine Elite League fixtures, however their form in the Cup has been far from impressive.
Simon's men have already suffered group defeats at the hands of Cardiff and Coventry and the Steelers player-coach has called for a response in front of his home fans.
"Hull have had a bit of a roller coaster summer, but I know coach (Sylvain) Cloutier has built a disciplined hard working team" said Simon.
"They have not played as many games as us and they will prove a tough opponent for us. As a team we absolutely need to win this game and get back in the race.
"If we can continue to perform the way we did against Nottingham on Saturday we would be difficult to beat for anyone in the league right now.
"While Sunday against Belfast wasn't the result we were looking for, I am confident if we continue with our work ethic and attitude in the coming weeks we'll put ourselves in a very good position in terms of the league and the Challenge Cup."
