Who is eSports' Faker? All you need to know about the League Of Legends World Championship MVP

faker

Last weekend at League Of Legends World Championship finals, SK Telecom T1 made history by becoming the first team to win the annual tournament three times. Faker was named MVP of the tournament.

It's easy to see why, too. Faker is considered the best LOL player in the world thanks to the threat that he presents to any player facing him.

He's the one to beat in pretty much every competitive match thanks to his mechanical mastery of a wide pool of LOL characters.

His favourite champions - such as Cassiopeia, Orianna and Syndra - are well known for their quick damage-dealing capabilities - or burst damage - that can obliterate single-targets quite quickly. When Faker gets a lead over his opponent, he certainly utilises it.

Faker - or Lee Sang-hyeok - was born in 1996 in South Korea and began playing League Of Legends in 2011.

He's played competitively since 2013 when he first joined SK Telecom T1. It's been an almost unstoppable combination, with SKT winning the World Championship in 2013, 2015, and again this year.

Thanks to his healthy pay cheque and a number of high profile victories - Faker is estimated to be worth roughly £1.25m, making him one of the most valuable players in the League Of Legends scene and all of eSports.

He's easily one of the most watched and documented gamers in eSports, but where will he go from here?

He's stayed loyal to SK Telecom T1 in South Korea, despite a regulation change in 2015 that saw many Korean players sign for Chinese teams where they could earn more money. This has helped to maintain his popularity, in Korea especially, but whether he will move on to another team now that he has helped SKT to make history remains to be seen.

For the time being, Faker remains the best player in the world and though many have tried to claim his crown, none have yet succeeded.
