WWE Smackdown results: Stardust enters Intercontinental Title hunt

Face-painted Superstar attacks Daniel Bryan in Washington

Stardust is seemingly the latest Superstar to throw his hat into the ring for an Intercontinental Title shot at WrestleMania after pinching the prize on WWE Smackdown.

The face-painted grappler attacked Daniel Bryan in the blue brand’s closing moments before slinking away with the strap that is officially worn by Britain’s Bad News Barrett.

Stardust’s inclusion in WrestleMania’s Ladder Match would take the number of competitors up to six, with Barrett, Dolph Ziggler, Dean Ambrose, Luke Harper and R-Truth all confirmed entrants.

Barrett and his belt-seeking rivals were either in or around Smackdown’s main event on Thursday, with the Preston fighter teaming with Harper to take on Ziggler and Ambrose while Truth watched on from the announce desk.

Ziggler and Ambrose prevailed in Washington but there was plenty of scrapping still to be done with each wrestler looking to walk out of the arena with their hands on Barrett’s championship.

Truth eventually claimed it but when he handed it over to Bryan, perhaps to try and lure him into entering the multi-man melee at WrestleMania, Stardust launched his assault.

Elsewhere on Smackdown, Ryback defeated Kane but lost to Big Show; WWE Tag Team Champions Cesaro and Tyson Kidd overcame Los Matadores in a non-title match; and Big E and Kofi Kingston knocked off The Miz and Damien Mizdow.

AJ Lee, meanwhile, submitted Brie Bella after her friend Paige yanked Nikki Bella off the ring apron, while Bray Wyatt vowed to unleash “the spirit within” on Raw when he makes another plea for The Undertaker to fight him at WrestleMania.

Curtis Axel will also be in attendance on Raw and wants a United States Title match, with the son of “Mr Perfect” Curt Hennig challenging Rusev after the Bulgarian Brute had battered Jack Swagger.
