Orlando Magic held rookie center Mohamed Bamba out for their game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night due to a bruised right wrist.
The decision was made as a precaution after Bamba, the No 6 pick in this year's draft out of Texas, had an MRI that showed no structural damage to his wrist.
Bamba sustained the injury on Monday against the Miami Heat. He landed awkwardly on the floor on a hit from Heat center Bam Adebayo.
"It was when I hit the ground and I just hit the ground awkwardly," Bamba told the team's website. "It was in the heat of the moment, so I had a lot of adrenaline (and didn't notice the pain). I was able to finish off the game and after that it got a little sore. But it's really just precautionary."
The 20-year-old is wearing a soft brace on his right wrist. His return will depend on how his wrist responds to treatment.
Bamba averaged 10.3 points and 5.3 rebounds in his first three preseason games.
The Magic, who beat the Grizzlies 102-86 on Wednesday, will play one more preseason game against the San Antonio Spurs on Friday before opening the regular season against Heat on October 17.
