LaMarcus Aldridge recorded a career-high 56 points to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a thrilling 154-147 double-overtime win over the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Spurs forward, a six-time All-Star, carried the scoring load as the Spurs outlasted the spirited Thunder, connecting on 20-of-33 field goals and a perfect 16-of-16 from the free throw line.
In the second quarter, Aldridge cut the hoop to convert on a two-handed slam from DeMar DeRozan's clever pass out of a double team. In the third period, a lofted turnaround fadeaway jump shot from the low post over Jerami Grant gave the Spurs a double-figure lead. He then made a baseline cut to finish a Derrick White alley-oop pass at the rim.
Aldridge showed his toughness in the fourth quarter, following his own miss before outmuscling Steven Adams for the rebound and laying the ball home. The basket completed a run of 10 straight Spurs points scored by Aldridge.
The former Portland Trail Blazers star then added six points in the opening overtime period and a further seven in the second extra session - including two crucial free throws with 25 seconds remaining, to ice the game.
