Russell Westbrook extended his run of consecutive triple-doubles to 11 games in the Oklahoma City Thunder's loss to the New Orleans Pelicans.

Westbrook scored a game-high 44 points (on 18-of-30 shooting, including 4-of-12 from three-point range) and added 14 rebounds and 11 assists but it wasn't enough to prevent the Thunder falling to their first defeat in five games.

The former MVP showed his trademark tenacity as he dragged the Thunder back into the game in the third quarter with nine points and two assists, cutting the Pelicans' lead from 17 to 12.

That continued in the fourth quarter as Westbrook made two more baskets and supplied two more assists to help the Thunder get within 117-113 with five minutes left in the game.

Thursday night's results

  • Oklahoma City Thunder 122-131 New Orleans Pelicans
  • New York Knicks 106-91 Atlanta Hawks
  • Charlotte Hornets 89-127 Orlando Magic

But the Thunder had no answer to Pelicans forward Julius Randle, who made three vital baskets down the stretch to seal the win for New Orleans.
