Newly-acquired New York Knicks guard Smith Jr, who was beaten by Donovan Mitchell in last year's event, is the bookies' favourite. His 10ft 7in vertical leap and dunk speed of 30.8mph suggest some spectacular slams are in store for the Charlotte crowd.

However, Smith can expect some stiff competition, particularly from Atlanta Hawks forward John Collins who showed he is more than capable of inventive dunking in the Rising Stars game, tossing himself an assist off the backboard before hammering home a right-handed slam.
