The Los Angeles Lakers are looking to waive injured center DeMarcus Cousins, according to a report by ESPN.

Freeing up a roster spot would then allow the team to add a player for their playoff push, such as Markieff Morris who has been strongly linked with the team.

Cousins, who spent most of last season on the sidelines with the Golden State Warriors before joining the team deep into the NBA Playoffs, joined the Lakers in the summer but tore his ACL during summer workouts and never made it onto the court.

Team officials figured his $3.5 million salary might have been useful in a trade prior to the deadline, but when that didn't come to fruition it became likely he could get waived.

Cousins will continue to rehab from his injury this season, and is unlikely to be signed but will be available to sign in the summer for teams willing to take a chance on him despite his recent litany of injuries.
