Denver Broncos have negotiated with Ryan Fitzpatrick but will not pay his current salary demands.
The Super Bowl winners are desperately seeking an answer to their quarterback troubles after Peyton Manning retired and Brock Osweiler left for the Houston Texans.
According to ESPN, initial talks with New York Jets' Fitzpatrick resulted in a stalemate due to the 33-year-old's financial requests.
Fitzpatrick, who threw for 3,905 yards with 31 touchdowns and 15 interceptions in 2015, is seeking a deal worth $18m according to NFL.com but neither the Broncos nor his current employers are keen to pay that sum.
The Broncos' only quarterback options are Mark Sanchez, who they traded for last week with Philadelphia Eagles, and Trevor Siemian but neither are expected to be the team's first-choice throughout 2016.
San Francisco 49ers' Colin Kaepernick and recently released Washington Redskins enigma Robert Griffin III remain options for Denver.
