Former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow has signed for New York Mets on a minor league baseball contract.
The former Denver Broncos and New York Jets star, who announced in August he planned to change sports, will play in the Mets' Instructional League.
Tebow has not started an NFL game since 2012 and last played for the Philadelphia Eagles in four pre-season games before he was cut 12 months ago.
The 29-year-old, who led the University of Florida to two national titles and won the 2007 Heisman Trophy, has not played competitive baseball since high school.
"The goal would be to have a career in the big leagues," Tebow said last week after a work out in front of scouts in Los Angeles.
"I want to be someone that pursues what I believe in and what I'm passionate about, and a lot of people will say, 'Well, what if you fail? What if you don't make it?'
"Guess what? I don't have to live with regret. I did everything I could. I pushed it. So I would rather be someone that could live with peace and no regrets than the what-if, or being scared of if I didn't make it."
