LA Chargers cornerback Jason Verrett set for season-ending knee surgery

Jason Verrett #22 of the San Diego Chargers

Los Angeles Chargers cornerback Jason Verrett will undergo season-ending knee surgery for the second consecutive year.

Verrett will end the season on Injured Reserve for the third time in his four-year career.

The 26-year-old missed last week's game against the Miami Dolphins because of soreness in his left knee, which he had previously had surgery on, ruling him out against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

Trevor Williams, a second-year undrafted free agent from Penn State, will replace Verrett in the starting line-up.

Verrett was limited to six games as a rookie because of a shoulder injury, and he played in four games last season before undergoing surgery to repair a partially torn ACL.

When he has been available, Verrett has looked every bit worth the first-round pick the Chargers used on him in 2014.
