The St Louis Rams are set to sign Nick Foles in a swap deal with Philadelphia Eagles for fellow starting quarterback Sam Bradford, according to reports.

Both players struggled with injuries in 2014, with Bradford missing the whole of the 2013 season with an injured ACL while Foles - who was outstanding as a starter in 2013 - could only manage the first half of the 2014 season before breaking his collarbone.

In Foles' 2013 season, he threw for 2,891 yards and 23 touchdowns for Chip Kelly's exciting offense, and put together a 6-2 record. Although Mark Sanchez played well when he replaced Foles (enough to get a new two-year, $9m contract), Philadelphia failed to make the play-offs.

On the other hand Bradford - the Rams' No 1 pick in 2010 - has been cursed by a litany of injuries, including two torn ACLs. He only had two complete seasons for the Rams since coming to Missouri as the No 1 pick in 2010, throwing for 11,065 yards, 59 TDs and 38 TDs.

ESPN reported that had Bradford stayed in St Louis, he would have been owed $13m, which prompted St Louis to look for trade options.

Foles finished his career in Philadelphia with a 14-4 record, while Bradford was 18-30-1.

The decision to trade Foles for Bradford may be a re-thinking of Chip Kelly's offensive strategy. In two surprising moves, Philadelphia traded star running back LeSean McCoy to Buffalo and let talented wide receiver Jeremy Maclin go this off-season.

Bradford may not be in Philadelphia for long, amid rumours that Philadelphia might try and move up the NFL Draft so they can pick last year's Heisman winner, Marcus Mariota - who was recruited by Kelly during his time at the University of Oregon.
