Peyton Manning starting on road to Denver Broncos return

Peyton Manning could resume throwing outdoors this week but the Denver Broncos quarterback is not close to making a competitive return.
Manning has missed the last three games because of a foot injury, with backup Brock Osweiler guiding the Broncos to three wins to improve their record to 10-2.
The 39-year-old is recovering from a torn plantar fascia in his left foot, and only had his walking boot removed on Friday, but coach Gary Kubiak said Manning had been keeping his arm strength up by throwing passes at their indoor training facility.
Manning could move outside to increase his workload this week, although his practice regime will be limited and he is not expected to be involved in any team drills.
"Peyton worked hard through the weekend, worked hard today," Kubiak said on Monday. "(But) It's nothing like throwing the out route.
"It could change, but right now we might go into a modified small workout with him."
Osweiler will remain in control of the Denver offence on Sunday when they take on the Oakland Raiders (5-7). A win combined with a defeat for the Kansas City Chiefs would see them seal the AFC West title.
